Speech to the UNC Board of Trustees.
January 27, 2011.

The campaign season has kicked off on campus for the next student election.

While others are vying for my job and the jobs of members of Student Congress, we have turned our focus to sprinting to the finish line with renewed passion and boldness to leave our mark on this place that has most certainly left its mark on us.

I think it’s safe to say that a theme among recent campus dialogue has been “impact,” and how we can maximize the resources available here at Carolina to achieve that impact.

Often we lose ourselves in the presumption that measurements of impact are most important, when we can easily forget that positive impact of any kind, to any degree, is a step in the right direction.

The selection of Dr. E.O. Wilson as this year’s commencement speaker has got us all thinking about our role in this world and how we can leave behind a legacy that adds to collective progress.

As a graduating senior, I cannot wait to receive his message on graduation day.
