I feel almost as if I walked away from the conference with more questions than answers, but perhaps that’s not such a bad thing.

Technology & Disability in the Developing World Conference University of Washington

I attended the “Technology and Disability in the Developing World” conference in Seattle, which featured lectures and workshops led by technology experts who have developed some of the most incredible technologies to serve low-income communities and the developing world.

I listened to the lectures and engaged in discussions with speakers about several of the project ideas I have.

I feel almost as if I walked away from the conference with more questions than answers, but perhaps that’s not such a bad thing.I’m able to ask deeper questions and analyze my projects more critically. And now I have people I can ask for help when I get stuck.

In terms of global development, one of the biggest bottlenecks is communication. Traditional means of communication in rural areas is incredibly slow and significantly inhibits the rate of progress. Modern information technology can already remedy this, but at a very high cost. This is both good news and bad news. The good news is that solutions exist and are not that far out of reach. The bad news is that what we lack is money.
