Allison Hawkins
Class of 2012

Biweekly report. June 27, 2011.

Me (joking): So have you ever met the Queen?

Mark: Yeah, a couple of times.

Me: So you’ve literally said, “Hello Your Majesty, my name is Mark”?

Mark: Yes. She’s very small in person.

Royal procession through London Photo by Allison Hawkins '12

We began to wander around London, but what was supposed to be a simple whistle-stop tour of various tourist hotspots came to a screeching halt when we encountered crowds of people and a bunch of police and soldiers on the Mall (the big road leading to Buckingham Palace).

Turns out the Royal Family was about to ride by on their way back to the palace from the Trooping the Colour ceremony in celebration of the Queen’s birthday.

On our way to try and find a thin part of the crowd where we could stand and see the parade, this conversation happened:

Me (joking): So have you met the Queen?

Mark: A couple times, yeah.

Me: Wait, are you serious?

Mark: Yeah, she presented an award to me. And she visited my school on its 500th anniversary, and I was one of the students who gave her a tour.

Me: So you’ve literally said, “Hello Your Majesty, my name is Mark”?

Mark: Yes. She’s very small in person.
